After a week of rain, the clouds parted and the sun shined down upon Goosepond Animal Hospital as our entire staff worked together to set up for our first ever Adopt-A-Pet Day. Soon after, the shelters, rescues, vendors, and local businesses came rolling in and started setting up for what was sure to be a memorable event. As soon as the clock struck 10:00 am, community members began to file in through the "Welcome" tent, greeted by our cheerful Goosepond Team.
As each patron walked around the Goosepond Animal Hospital grounds they were able to meet the volunteers from local shelters and rescues. Those in attendance included Goshen Humane Society, Walden Humane Society, A Better English Setter Rescue of New York, Middletown Human Society, Bleu’s K9 Rescue, Humane Society of Blooming Grove, and Town of Newburgh Animal Control and Shelter.
Attendees were able to participate in the Dunk-a-Doctor fundraiser where they could buy chances to dunk Goosepond’s Dr. Alwang, Dr. Rothenberg, and Dr. Aimetti. The Empanada Master food truck & Dogfellas food cart were busy all day selling delicious food to patrons, employees, and volunteers alike. DJ $hark, Hudson Valley’s youngest DJ, played music that all ages enjoyed and kept people dancing, upbeat, and happy the whole day!
The entire event was wonderfully captured by local photographer, Simon Narborough, of Fotocache, Inc. Donations poured in from event-goers and were stacked up high among donations made previously that week by generous Goosepond clients.
At the end of the event, the donations were raffled off and won by Goshen Humane Society. In addition, all the funds raised by the Dunk-a-Doctor event, 50/50 raffles, and private donations were divided up between each shelter/rescue in attendance and each one received $113 toward their organizations needs.
The event was attended by more than 400 people and the total number of animals adopted from the event continues to rise.
One thing's for sure - the Goosepond Animal Hospital Team will be hosting their second annual Adopt-A-Pet Day event in 2019!
