Dr. Howard Rothenberg, DVMDr. Howard Rothenberg, Chief of Staff, knew he wanted to become a veterinarian when he was eight years old. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at SUNY Stonybrook and then went on to Veterinary School in The Philippines. Veterinary school was academically rigorous and living in the Philippine Islands provided him with a culturally rich experience as well. After returning to the United States and passing licensing exams in several states, he practiced in Spring Valley, New York and later in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Dr. Chris Alwang, DVMDr. Christopher Alwang is a 1995 graduate of Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama. He received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from Cornell University. Dr. Alwang has been a member of the Goosepond family since 1995. His interests include general small animal medicine and surgery.

In his spare time, Dr. Alwang enjoys skiing, biking, birding, involvement in environmental and conservation issues and spending time with his daughter and son. His extended family includes two cats, Bella and Chase, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Finley.

Dr. Marci Scarano, DVMDr. Marci Scarano graduated from Mercy College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Technology in 1999. She worked as a licensed veterinary technician for two years prior to attending Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine. She performed her clinical year at Oklahoma State University and graduated in 2003. Dr. Scarano worked as an associate veterinarian at the North Shore Animal League Veterinary Hospital in Port Washington, New York. She relocated to the Hudson Valley and began working at Goosepond Animal Hospital in 2005.

Dr. Michelle Sonnema, DVMDr. Michelle Sonnema graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and teaching certification in Biology. While at Rutgers she raised a Seeing Eye puppy for The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ. She is a 2011 graduate of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated in the top ten percent of her class. During veterinary school she enjoyed volunteering at the local animal shelter and fostering dogs and cats with various medical needs.

Dr. Kari Hayeck, DVMDr. Kari Hayeck completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Marketing. She worked for five years as an analyst in the financial and pharmaceutical industries before returning to Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine to earn her DVM degree in 2009. Dr. Hayeck practiced as an associate veterinarian in San Francisco, California for several years prior to relocating to the Hudson Valley and joining Goosepond Animal Hospital in April 2014.
