Dr. Michelle Sonnema graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and teaching certification in Biology. While at Rutgers she raised a Seeing Eye puppy for The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ. She is a 2011 graduate of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated in the top ten percent of her class. During veterinary school she enjoyed volunteering at the local animal shelter and fostering dogs and cats with various medical needs.
Following graduation, Dr. Sonnema completed a small animal general practice internship at Flannery Animal Hospital in New Windsor, NY, before joining the Goosepond Animal Hospital team in 2012.
She is currently a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, New York State Veterinary Medical Society and is accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture. Dr. Sonnema has a special interest in ophthalmology and dermatology.
In her spare time Dr. Sonnema enjoys snowboarding, skiing, and spending time with her husband and daughter. She currently owns three rescue dogs named Owen, Lilah, and Reno.
